‘How To Make Money Online?’ — The Wrong Question That Won’t Work.
The most common question on the internet.

I had another phone call with a person that was introduced to me. The topic you ask?
They want to know how to make money online — apparently I’m supposed to be some sort of expert because I’ve successfully done it multiple times in my life.
So, I’m going to dress up in my Harry Potter costume, wave my magic wand, and release all the secrets that have been kept hidden by flaming dragons in a dungeon underneath Hogwarts. Seriously, this question has no secrets.
This is the most common question I get even though I’ve written articles on it. It’s a question that I find challenging because it’s not what you should focus on nor should it be a goal you chase.
The making money part happens at the end, not the beginning.
You’re going to probably hate me for what I’m about to write, but if you take the time to understand it, then you’ll actually have a chance to make money online.
There are only three steps to make money online:
- Decide on one thing
Do you love blogging online, selling stuff online, creating videos about a particular topic or writing code? What do you know lots about or would learn about for free?
The hardest part is deciding on the one thing you’re going to do online.
Think carefully because once you’ve chosen the field, you must stick to it. It should be something you’re already doing or have been obsessed with. Forget how big the audience is or how good you are at it.
When you have your one thing, lock it in.
2. Put in the work for a long time without stopping
Okay, this is the most important part and everyone hates when I say this.
This one and only step is ignored by almost everyone that comes to me with this making money online question.
You can’t avoid it, it sucks, some days it will make you cry and you’ll have to miss a few warm chicken dinners with friends.
This is the only thing I’ve ever done well that has led to making money online. I started in 2019 writing stuff on the internet.
Then, I did it for 2 years straight without thinking about money, results, reach, marketing plans, or any other distractions.
I sucked at the start and from that one crap article, I wrote more. No matter how bad I was at the start, it was inevitable that after that many hours of focus I’d develop some half-assed skill that could make me a few naira online.
Going through the ups and downs and just sticking at it is 91% of what it takes to make money online.
3. Answers will come
When these success seekers want to chat about making cash online, they come to me for answers.
They assume that if they have the answers at the start, then they’ll succeed. There are no answers though because everyone’s situation is different. I had no clue about Medium, Wordpress or Linkedin when I started.
The answers and what I should do came to me as I put the work in but it’s the truth and I hope you appreciate it.
As you do your ‘one thing’ you’ll figure out all the hidden details and stuff you don’t know at the start.
The answers will come because information is free and Google will give it to you once you know what you’re searching for.
Finally, don’t focus on money.
The dumbest thing you can do is focus on money.
That’s why, how to make money online is a ridiculously stupid question that causes most people who seek to answer it, experience a tidal wave of failure.
Change the question from:
‘How to make money online?’ to ‘How to do one thing online repeatedly for the next 955 days or until death?’
I’ve watched the digits in my Expertnaire account go up and down on a monthly basis and not once has it stopped me from being lazy or got me excited.
The digits of money passing through my bank account are one, giant anti-climax of an orgasm.
Do one thing
Do it for years without stopping
Answers will come
I’m hoping this article can serve as the final time I ever answer this question.
You can make money online. Change the question. And then go do it.
